How it is formed: A metamorphic rock, mainly composed of talc as well as chlorite, mica, and carbonates; soapstone is used in many ways all over the world due to being soft and it’s abilities to be carved easily into various shapes. It forms where tectonic plates are subducted- and is able to overcome extreme pressure and heat without melting. Soapstone is commonly mined in Brazil, Canada, Finland, and Montana and Virginia in the United States.
Color: mainly bluish green, grey or brown
Mohs: Very soft, 1.0 level!
Compound: 33% magnesium oxide (MgO) and 67% silicon dioxide (SiO2)
