❖It Is Said That All Petrified Wood Carries Within It, The Wisdom Of The Tree It Came From
How it is formed: Petrified wood is a fossil / stone formed by years and years of sediment buildup which protects the wood from oxygen and various organisms. Eventually, water rich in minerals like calcite, silica and pyrite will flow with high pressure through the sediment and replace the original organic properties of the wood, fossilizing the shape and details of the wood! The organic elements in the wood are completely replaced by silica rich materials like calcite, Quartz, chalcedony, agate, opal, and sometimes even pyrite or copper. The amount of silica elements during formation will decipher the final colors and details in the fossil.
Color: neutral and organic wood tones, mostly brown, grey and red- the brighter the color specimen, the more value it holds
Size: 6-8 on the Mohs scale, depending on the base mineral it is fossilized with. Can be found in all shapes and sizes, even in the form of full tree stumps and trunks!
Compound: varies depending on main mineral base
