Amethyst is a natural tranquillizer, it relieves stress and strain, soothes irritability, balances mood swings, dispels anger, rage, fear and anxiety. Alleviates sadness and grief, and dissolves negativity. It activates spiritual awareness, opens intuition and enhances psychic abilities.

How it is formed: Amethyst can also be referred to as purple quartz, as it is of the quartz family and was considered a precious gemstone. Being reserved specifically for the royal families of ancient history, up until an abundance was found in Brazil in the 19th century. It then was classified as a semiprecious gemstone. How Amethyst is formed is somewhat a mystery- they usually form in geodes, inside rocks that look normal on the outside but are broken and reveal gorgeous sparkling crystals inside. It’s believed that amethysts are created in two steps: First, gas cavities and bubbles in lava form, creating the exterior rock structure. The lava hardens before filling the rock and fills up with liquid which is rich in iron. Over time, the chemical reaction causes the crystals to produce inside, only to be found when broken open. Amethysts can also be produced in hydrothermal veins and cavities in high temperature places, like hot springs and volcanic rocks.
