How it is formed: Lepidolite needs a lithium rich environment in order to form, making it a rare mineral because lithium is one of the final factors in the crystallization process of underground magma. It is, however, the most common lithium-bearing mineral of the mica family. Mostly found in Brazil, Canada, Japan and Russia, but also some US states such as California, New Mexico and Maine.
