How it is formed: Copper in formed in spikey, star-like formation that are large in size. Most copper is mined or extracted as copper sulfides from large open pit mines in porphyry copper deposits that contain 0.4 to 1.0% copper. (source). Found in Chili, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Indonesia, Peru and more. Copper can also be found mixed in with other minerals such as Malachite and Azurite.
