Tarot cards can be read using a method called a spread.  There are an infinite number of spread types that can be used and depends on what it is you are wanting to gain from the reading.  A spread is created after mixing the deck, cutting the deck, and placing the cards down, image side up in a side turn.  As you shuffle, you are intertwining your energy into the cards, allowing your spirit guides a moment to realize you are asking for guidance. This moment is the time to think of or say your question aloud.

A spread can be as simple as a one-card spread or get more elaborate and detailed with multiple card spreads. Here today, we will be discussing the one-card and three-card spreads.

Classic Tarot Card Deck & How They Are Organized

A full tarot card deck, which contains a total of 78 cards is broken up into two categories. All traditional tarot card decks have 22 cards known as the major arcana, representing life lessons and influences that can impact your life.  The other 56 cards make up the minor arcana and are divided into 4 suites: cups, wands, swords, and coins each with 14 cards.  The minor arcana are temporary influences and represent what is happing in your life right now.

The purpose to consult any divination such as tarot is to search for insight, answers, and guidance from your higher power.   Open-ended questions are best, avoiding yes or no answers.  Until you are familiar with each card’s meaning, use the deck’s book as well as your intuition to help interpret each card. Keeping in mind the position of the card when you pulled it - is it upright or inverse?
