Snake (Serpent) Spirit

The Snake Spirit, which is also commonly called the Serpent Spirit, is known to hold tremendous amounts of grounding energy. Since this reptile lives close to the ground its spirit represents the Earth. And since the snake sheds its skin it also symbolizes life changes and healing. Historically, serpents represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing.

Sometimes, this spirit can be known as a “creator” or “the destroyer”, because snakes spit venom and bite people as well as shedding their skin and being reborn. If the actions of the spirit are spiteful or negative in anyway pay attention to the things that are happening in your life. What can you change to make a more positive spiritual connection?

The snake spirit awakens natural healing abilities and urges you to pay attention to how you use this energy. Since you are able to use it for yourself and with others, the Snake Spirit asks you to be self-aware of your own life and find out how you can move forward. Pay attention to what is happening within your current environment, being Intune with where you are will naturally ground you and make you feel in control.

Some cultures see the Snake Spirit as Evil. However, many choose to see it in a more positive light. Native Americans believe the Snake Spirit represents renewal and healing. This Spirit embraces life and death, the circle of life. They also believed that if you see a snake in your dreams then you have an enemy, however, if you kill that snake, you are known to have good luck.

The Caduceus is a familiar symbol within the medical field and is known as the symbol of medicine and healing. This symbol shows two snakes climbing upon a rod and represents the Greek God of Medicine, Asclepius.
